The weather in Malta is typically Mediterranean with hot and dry summers and mild winters. Rainfall is low and it rains mainly in winter. The yearly average temperature is 26 degrees Celsius. The hottest period of the year spreads from July to September reaching its peak in August. During these four months, the evening sea breezes cools down the temperature.

Due to the lack of tides, swimming can be enjoyed anywhere in Malta without danger. The average sea water temperature is 22.8 degrees Celsius and there are a number of beaches all around the island. Topless bathing is forbidden.
